Night and Waking Poetry
By Angela Castillo, Kimberle Edgecomb, and Jessica King

SILVER DREAMS
by Angela Castillo
It is a summer's eve,
The air is still,
Locusts buzz,
Whippoorwills cry,
Summer has settled over the hill
It is a night for dreaming,
I hope that you will see,
Will you come,
Will you stay,
To dream a bit with me?

OVERNIGHT GUEST
by Kimberlee Edgecomb
I brush my teeth and head for bed.
My mommy goes with me.
She listens as I talk to God
while praying on my knees.
I ask the Lord to keep me safe
and bless my mom and dad,
to bless my sister and my dog
and help me not be bad.
When I am done, Mom tucks me in,
and then turns out the light.
She says she loves me as she leaves,
then kisses me goodnight.
I’m not afraid when I’m alone
but if I am I say,
“God, I know you’re with me now
and right here’s where you’ll stay.”

STARLIGHT
by Kimberlee Edgecomb
I look into the star filled sky
Such wonder fills my mind
to think that God reached out His hand
and placed them for all time.

RAINFOREST
by Jessica King, age 9
I wake up and all I see is green,
Yellow green, blue green,
Olive green, true green.
I wake up and all I hear are animals,
The monkeys in the trees,
Gorillas and chimpanzees.
I wake up and all I smell are plants,
Tropical flowers swaying in the breeze,
The minty smell of minty mint leaves,
I wake up…

Now it's your turn!
Write a poem!
Have you ever tried to write a poem? Now is a good time to try it. Write a poem about the evening or about waking up in the morning after a good dream. Your poem doesn’t even have to rhyme, but it can if you want it to.
Happy writing!
